Your Kitchen Installation Information Guide, brought to you by AD Home Improvements, Reading

Welcome to the exciting process of getting your new kitchen! This guide from AD Home Improvements is designed to inform you of the installation stages, what we need from you, and how we will work together to ensure a smooth, efficient, and high-quality installation.

Before Installation Day

  • Clear the Space: Empty all existing cupboards, drawers, and worktops. Pack items into clearly labelled boxes and store them safely away from the work area.

  • Set up a Temporary Kitchen: Arrange a temporary area elsewhere in your home (e.g., dining room, utility room) for meal preparation. Essentials include a kettle, microwave, and a small fridge, along with basic crockery and utensils.

  • Protect Your Home: Cover floors and furniture in adjacent rooms with dust sheets or protective film, as the process generates dust and involves moving heavy items.

  • Ensure Clear Access: Make sure there is a clear, unobstructed path from your front door to the kitchen for the delivery team and installers.

  • Manage Utilities: Identify the locations of your main water stopcock, gas shut-off valve, and electrical consumer unit, and point these out to the installation team. Be prepared for temporary disruption to these services.

  • Plan for Disruption: Arrange for pets or young children to be safely away from the work area during installation due to noise and safety concerns.

  • Review Documentation: Keep your kitchen plans, appliance manuals, and warranty information easily accessible for the fitters to refer to.

During Installation

  • Old Kitchen Removal: The first step is the safe disconnection and removal of your old units, worktops, and appliances. We’ll also remove any tiling, flooring, fixtures and fittings.

  • First Fix Services: We will carry out initial work, such as moving pipes, installing new wiring for sockets and lighting, and fitting extractor fan ducting, to prepare the space for the new layout.

  • Wall and Floor Preparation: Any necessary plastering, floor levelling, or repairs to walls will be completed at this stage to ensure a smooth, level surface for the new units.

  • Cabinet Installation: The new base and wall units are assembled and secured into place, carefully following your approved design plan.

  • Worktop Installation: Worktops are carefully measured, cut, and fitted. Cut-outs for the sink and hob are made, and joints are sealed. If you’re having specialist surfaces like quartz installed, we will prepare the area ready for a 3rd party to template the worktops.

  • Second Fix Services: Final plumbing and electrical connections are made. This includes connecting the sink, tap, hob, oven, and other appliances. All systems are tested to ensure they are fully functional and safe.

After Installation

  • Finishing Touches: The final details, such as fitting handles, plinths, cornices, decorative panels, and any agreed-upon tiling or splashbacks, are completed.

  • Final Inspection and Handover: The installation team will clean the work area and walk you through your new kitchen. This is your opportunity to check everything and confirm you are happy with the results. Any minor adjustments (snagging) are handled at this stage.

  • Aftercare: You should receive all relevant manuals and warranty information for your new appliances and advice on how to register them.
