Your Bathroom Installation Information Guide, brought to you by AD Home Improvements, Reading
Welcome to the exciting process of transforming your bathroom! This guide is designed to inform you of the installation stages, what we need from you, and how we will work together to ensure a smooth, efficient, and high-quality renovation.
Before Installation Day
-
Clear the Space: Remove all toiletries, towels, mirrors, and personal items from the bathroom. Pack them into boxes and store them safely away from the work area.
-
Plan for Facilities: As your main bathroom will be out of commission, ensure you have an alternative arrangement for showering and toilet use. If you only have one bathroom, please discuss this with us in advance so we can plan for "essential-only" access where possible.
-
Protect Your Home: Our team will be moving heavy sanitaryware and tiles. We recommend covering carpets and furniture in adjacent hallways and bedrooms with dust sheets or protective film.
-
Ensure Clear Access: Maintain a clear, unobstructed path from your front door to the bathroom for our installers and the delivery of your new suite.
-
Manage Utilities: Identify the location of your main water stopcock and electrical consumer unit. Be prepared for temporary water and electrical shut-offs during the "first fix" stage.
-
Safety First: Arrange for pets or young children to be kept safely away from the work area, as bathroom renovations involve sharp materials (like tiles) and plumbing equipment.
-
Review Documentation: Have your bathroom design plans, brassware specifications, and any specialist installation manuals (e.g., for digital showers or whirlpool baths) ready for the team.

During Installation
-
Old Bathroom Removal: We begin by safely isolating the water and electricity, followed by the removal of your old bath, basin, toilet, and shower. We will also strip back existing wall tiles and flooring to provide a clean slate.
-
First Fix Services: This involves "behind the scenes" work—rerouting pipework for your new layout, installing shower valves, and running electrical cables for lighting, extractor fans, or illuminated mirrors.
-
Wall and Floor Preparation: To ensure a waterproof and level finish, we will repair walls, install backer boards (especially in wet areas), and apply self-levelling compounds to the floor if required.
-
Installation of Bath or Shower Tray: Large items like the bathtub or shower tray are installed and levelled early to allow for precise tiling and sealing around them.
-
Tiling and Grouting: Our experts will carefully lay your chosen wall and floor tiles. Once the adhesive has set, we apply grout and silicone sealant to ensure a completely watertight finish.
-
Second Fix Services: This is where the transformation comes together. We install the toilet, washbasin, taps, and shower head. Final electrical connections for lights and fans are also completed and tested.
After Installation
-
Finishing Touches: We fit the final accessories, such as towel rails, mirrors, toilet roll holders, and any decorative trim, ensuring everything is perfectly aligned.
-
Final Inspection and Handover: The team will clean the area and walk you through the operation of your new bathroom (including shower controls and maintenance tips). This is your chance to confirm you are 100% happy with the craftsmanship.
-
Drying Time: Please note that silicone and grout often require 24 hours to fully cure. We will advise you on exactly when you can take that first soak in your new bath!
-
Aftercare: You will receive all relevant manuals and warranty information. We recommend registering your new shower or taps with the manufacturers to activate your guarantees.
